Valorisation of plastic waste through micro-organisms

The project Micro-Val – Microorganisms for the Exploitation of plastic waste – University of Milan-Bicocca, is based on a treatment of transformation and microbiological degradation of polyethylene-based plastic applicable in waste management plants.

"A solution for the reduction of these plastics that contaminate municipal organic waste is the breaking and transformation of polymer chains. This process can take place thanks to the use of micro-organisms able to biotransform and biodegrade, at least partially, polyethylene”.
